Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (PMRN) - Phase III, Paraguay, KfW, 2022 – 2026
In a nutshell
The Sustainable Management of Natural Resources Project (PMRN) assist families in grassroots with financial incentives for the implementation of sustainable soil and forest management measures, promoting the use of animal traction, tools and accessories for soil tillage. The current phase aims at the sustainable adoption of conservation agriculture by Family Farming (FF) in the departments of Concepción, San Pedro, Caaguazú, Caazapá and Paraguarí. It shall enhance productivity of family farms connected to the market, through the conservation and recovery of agricultural soils, contributing to the sustainable increase of their incomes and improving adaptation to climate change. Special emphasis is given to promoting the mechanization of CA.
PMRN III provides: 1) Financial incentives for the adoption of no-till farming and motorised conservation agriculture; 2) Technical assistance for the implementation of conservation agriculture, targeting the rural population, in particular small scale farmers who are part of committees, cooperatives and production associations.
Our approach
- Provide financial incentives for the adoption of motorised conservation agriculture, to finance technical and physical inputs to be granted to producers through committees, associations or cooperatives based on the area they commit to convert to conservation agriculture in a three-year cycle;
- Provide financial incentives to finance equipment and implements to promote CA mechanisation to approx. 64 organisations participating in the Project (committees, associations or qualified cooperatives)
- Technical assistance to grant incentives through application by the Directorate of Agricultural Extension (DEAg) in the departments of Concepción, San Pedro, Caaguazú, Caazapá and Paraguarí;
- Provide equipment and technical support to the DEAg and the Agricultural Development Centres (CDA) participating in the project in relation to the implementation of the activities foreseen in the project;
- Training through rural extension technicians and soil specialists of the Agricultural Development Centres (CDAs);
- Administration and monitoring of the use of the incentives and respective accountability by the DEAg and the National Directorate for Project Coordination and Administration (DINCAP);
- Planning, monitoring and evaluation of project implementation following agreed instruments and protocols of the MAG and KfW.
