Alexia Lewnes
Senior Communications Advisor
Alexia is an award-winning communications strategist with more than 25 years of non-profit, United Nations, and foundation experience. She has a history of leading high-performance teams to distinguish organizations in the marketplace, and extensive experience in strategy development, messaging and branding, capacity strengthening, media relations, and change management.
She has worked with several international nongovernmental organizations, including UNICEF for over a decade, and later with FHI 360, a leading global non-profit, where she served as the Communications Director and member of the executive management team. For six years, she was based in sub-Saharan Africa, where she worked for United Nations organizations, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and Futures Group International (now Palladium). Before joining GOPA Group US, Alexia served as the Senior Communications Director for the Vatican Covid-19 Commission, established by Pope Francis to propose integrated solutions for a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.
Alexia began her career as a journalist in New York City and spent two years based in Cairo, Egypt as a reporter before moving into international development. She is the author of Misplaced: New York City’s Street Kids, a nonfiction book on New York City’s homeless youth. Alexia has a BA from Wesleyan University and a Masters from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
