World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought: Project Activities in the Horn of Africa
We join the global community in observing the UN World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on 17 June. This significant occasion serves as a call to action to address the pressing challenges posed by desertification and drought around the world.
At GOPA, we are proud to be contributing to the efforts of drought resilience in the Horn of Africa.
In Ethiopia, where the Afar and Somali regions face frequent droughts and extreme dryness, we’re implementing the KfW-funded project "Regional Fund for Strengthening Drought Resilience.”
The project focuses on three core areas:
- Water resource development and rural infrastructure
- Improvement of rangeland and fodder development
- Alternative livelihoods and basic services
Positive impacts from project activities are already visible with the land turning green and precious water flowing.
Our commitment to drought resilience extends beyond Ethiopia. We’re also implementing similar KfW-funded projects in Djibouti and Northern Kenya.
We are dedicated to safeguarding our planet's resources and acknowledge all our skilled expert teams in the Horn of Africa. Their innovative solutions are instrumental in driving change and making a positive impact on the lives of communities affected by desertification and drought.
